The Programming committee has been hard at work arranging a trip to St. Louis for June 1, 2 and 3. We will visit Cahokia Mounds, a world heritage site in southern Illinois. Then we will travel into the city and take a riverboat cruise and learn more about the history of the river and the St. Louis waterfront. We will enjoy a barbeque dinner at Pappy's Smokehouse after checking into our hotel.
After dinner there is free time and we recommend visiting the Old Courthouse where the Jefferson Expansion museum is temporarily housed. It is open until 10 pm and is only 2 blocks from our hotel.
After breakfast on your own, we will tour Forest Park and enjoy calzones at a picnic in Shelter #11. Afterwards, you can enjoy your choice of either the Missouri History Museum or the St. Louis Art Museum. Later, the bus will take us to the famous Missouri Botanical Gardens where we will enjoy a tram tour before exploring on our own. We will have dinner at Mama’s on the Hill in the Italian district. Free time after dinner.
The next day will see us in St. Charles visiting the Lewis and Clark Boat House, a tour of this historic town that was the first capital of Missouri. You will have lunch on your own in one of the many small restaurants in the area.. Concretes at Ted Drewes Frozen Custard will be enjoyed as we leave for home.
Sorry about droppng Hannibal from the schedule but during the pre-planning trip we found too much to do in St. Louis to justify the extra miles. We will have to do it another time.
